Gerald has over 20 years’ experience in the animation industry as an animator, director, and story artist.

While coming of age during the 1990s he was influenced by the golden age of American animation, MAD magazine, Archie comics, NFB shorts, and newspaper cartoonists Bill Watterson and Gary Larson. In his hometown of Ottawa, Ontario, Canada he studied classical animation at Algonquin College and received a diploma in Television Animation (2002).

He has been credited on numerous television, film, and online projects as a traditional and digital artist. Selected highlights include the Canadian animated series Franklin the Turtle (2003) and Jacob Two Two (2004), the educational nature/adventure series Wild Kratts (2013-2015), and the Nickelodeon comedy series The Fairly OddParents! (2016).

In addition to animation he is focused on landscape painting and urban sketching as a means of connecting with nature, other artists, and the community more directly. Throughout his career he has also contributed to the arts as a workshop instructor and guest speaker to students at the secondary and post-secondary school levels.

He lives in Vancouver, BC with his wife Katie Shanahan who is also an accomplished director, story artist, and cartoonist.
